Plan your clip type early

Get the coat ready

Have the right rug ready to go
The moment the clippers come out, your horse loses some of its natural insulation — so have a stable rug and, if they're still going out, a lighter turnout ready before clip day, not after.
Don't forget the aftercare
Clipped skin can be sensitive — a soothing coat spray or antibacterial wash is worth having on hand for a day or two after clipping, especially around the girth and saddle area.
